The Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered heightened security vigil at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu following warnings from India that al-Qaeda-linked militants are plotting plane hijacks in the South Asian region.
Police and army personnel deployed at the airport have bee ordered to take extra measures and remain in high alert, according to TIA officials. Similarly, passengers are told to be in queue for longer time to clear security checks.
India has already issued warnings in all its international flights and intensified security checks at the airport.
